Today’s walk is an easy coastal walk, from Oxwich bay to Porth Einon (Port Eynon). It’s a lovely walk and I wanted to check the walk out again, for a group walk coming up.

There are some steep steps near the start, but it’s the only real hard section. Plus on the way back, i took the country road as its easier to walk down the hill, than walk up it.
I parked at the Oxwich Bay Hotel, as it’s free to park there. Grid reference is SS 50109 86345 (W3W inert.probably.skills) My advice is, drive right in and around to the back so you’re out the way.

From there, i walked past the beach and followed the coastal path. You’ll quickly come across St Illtyd’s Church, which is meant to be haunted by a ghostly white horse known as a ceffyl dŵr (“water horse”) which was seen in the churchyard before vanishing into the well. It also has lots of history, so its worth clicking in this link for more information. https://historypoints.org/index.php?page=st-illtyds-church-oxwich

After you pass the church, you come across the steep steps, this is probably the hardest part of the walk. When you get to the top, turn left and continue to follow the path.
You’ll eventually come to a set of steps going down to your left, follow those down back to the coast line, don’t follow the path ahead.
Once you get back to the coastline, its as simple as following the path, taking in the views along the way. Continue along the path until you get to Grid reference SS 48772 85585 (W3W emeralds.vital.stubborn). From here, you can follow detour right, and go back to oxwich bay, via Slade and Oxwich green, or follow the path ahead to Port Einon. It used to be closed off, but you can actually follow the side of the field.

Follow the path to Hortan, which is a little overgrown in places, and narrow between the houses. Once you see a green, look to the left, you’ll see a path leading to the beach. Depending on the tide, you can walk across the beach to Port Einon, or follow the road.

Once at Port Einon, you’ll find toilets, a chip shop and a pub. Its a great place to take break before heading back.

Once refreshed, go back the way you came until you get to Grid reference SS 48577 85527 (W3W winner.amps.crunching) and turn left. Follow the path until you get to Slade. At the junction, turn right and follow the country road through Oxwich Green, and down the road past the Castle. Eventually you’ll get back to Oxwich bay.
This is such a simple and beautiful walk. It took me around 4 hours to complete with breaks and photo stops. Although I could have done it quicker, if i hadn’t stopped and talked to any unlucky souls along the way.
If going alone, always tell someone where you’re going and don’t forget to check the weather first, and dress for the occasion.
Stay safe! Ade
